Greg Pope, a prominent British artist who deals with the Live Cinema phenomenon will, for the first time, introduce his new project to the public. This project results from the collaboration with Czech artists Veronika Vlková and Kateřina Koutná. The event takes place on university ground and is open to the public.
After dabbling in punk rock bands and absurdist performance, Greg Pope founded the Brighton-based Super 8 film collective Situation Cinema in 1986 and afterwards Loophole Cinema (London, 1989). Working collaboratively and individually, Pope has made video installations, live art pieces and single screen film works since 1996.
The material for the live cinematographic performance, which he has been preparing over the last few months for the Festivals of Live Cinema project (PAF & Screen City Festival) with Czech artists Veronika Vlková and Kateřina Koutná, has been shot during the year 2015 as a part of a residency in Iceland and the Czech Republic.
The outcomes of the cooperation of Greg Pope, Kateřina Koutná and Veronika Vlková will be presented at the Screen City Festival in October in Stavanger, Norway and as well in Olomouc as a part of the 14th PAF.

What is Live Cinema? „Live Cinema refers to projects, which originate in real time when both the audio and the visual parts of the works are being created. The development of similar productions has been known since the end of the 19th century. In the context of audio-visual performance and installation, Live Cinema is an important testimony to technological and social changes in the perception of contemporary art through different forms of presentation and interfaces.” (Martin Mazanec)
The team of PAF is examining the problems of Live Cinema as a part of the year-long Festivals of Live Cinema project. The focus is not only its current state but also a historical reflection in contrast with today’s technological availability of moving images.
