On Monday 21 October 2015, Vitrína Deniska, the Olomouc exhibition space, will host an opening of an exhibit of Czech sculptor Zuzana Kantová. In the public space thus finds itself a sculpture of a female body. Only a thin layer of glass separates it from a noisy street.
Kantová studied in the Studio of Figural Sculptures and Medals at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Precise technique, as well as technology, is the core of her sculptures, in which she references both the formal criteria of classical sculpture and the aesthetic canons of individual historical epochs. A recurring theme of Zuzana Kantová’s work is herself, stylized as the element of femininity.
The spectators of her installation About Turn will be faced with womanhood as well: “The ideal curves of a neck, back and hips provocatively attract the attention of passers-by. Even so the curves are safely, almost fearfully arising from a bas-relief. Exposed knees eventually appear outside this fragile case. Direct contact is available to anyone who plucks up the courage, however, the face is still turned away,” said Kantová about the exhibition in preparation.
The opening at Vitrine Deniska will, as always, take place in any weather and will be followed by a presentation of the author’s work in a friendly atmosphere.
