Within the framework of the section called Aport Animation, the concept of the animation phenomenon will be dramaturgically extended. Works in various stages of realization will be presented – animated cartoons, visualizations, software, graphics as well as used design. Another component is formed by the relationship of international art galleries, festivals and archives dealing with current trends in the fields of presentation, conservation and motion picture art digitalization. The aim of the section is to inform about current events and to encourage the audience, artists and curators to interact during the presentations.

To experience Poznan ... through animated film. The third Animator Festival, which this year took place in this Polish city, will represent Polish cinematography. During the period of its short existence, Animator has established itself as a prestigious international cultural event which introduces the work of local as well as international filmmakers. The personal selection will be introduced by the festival director Wojciech Juszczak, the media manager Bartek Grochal and the producer Filip Kozlowski.

The documentary Free Radicals was completed by filmmaker and film gallery owner Pip Chodorov during this autumn. It deals with the personal history of one of the experimental film and animation branches. This topic became very important for Chodorov during his childhood in New York; his father, as a journalist, was engaged in various film movements. The uniqueness of this documentary is supported by the inclusion of whole films and original interviews with Hans Richter, Len Lye, Robert Breer, Stan Brakhage, Jonas Mekas, Peterem Kubelkou, etc.

Video and computer animations from one of the most talented young authors of computer generated visuals. Pešek works with open algorithms from which he creates graphic compositions according to assigned rules and features. The projection and discussion with the author will be introduced by Martin Blažíček, a member of the research team Mediabaze.cz, the project focused on research, promotion and distribution of Czech audiovisual art.

Last year’s Konvikt resident at PAF 2009, a significant Austrian experimental filmmaker, is returning with the world premiere of the short animation Soft Palate – he preferred PAF to festivals in Rotterdam and Berlin. The projection of the second film of this year which is entitled Shadow Cuts will be part of the presentation.

The second part of the successful worldwide computer game Mafia continues the achievements of its predecessor. It was produced by the same team, despite being under a different name (2K Czech). Thanks to Czech dubbing, the gangster atmosphere and the almost two-hours of footage of inter-game videos, Mafia II offers a rich experience comparable to the projection of all three adaptations of The Godfather, Casino and Goodfellas. But there is one difference – this time you are personally participating in the story.

ArtMap is a unique project in the Czech territory which was established by the Hrůza brothers in 2007. It is an independent informative platform focused on the contemporary arts. In 2010, the portal artmap.cz, which “maps” the whole Czech Republic, was established. The authors will introduce the specific project of trailers on which Josef Bolf, Michal Pěchouček & Pavel Švec, Milena Dopitová, Alena Kotzmannová, Yumiko Ono, Poxoxo DJs, Audiofenky and others collaborate.

This year was the third year of the animation festival Fest Anča; it took place in the multicultural centre Stanice in Žilina in Slovakia. There will be a selection from the collection of fourteen short films entitled Animation Is Not Dead (published by the Anča civic association), which will be personally introduced by the animator and Fest Anča’s script editor Alica Gurinova and the animator Rasťo Polenkovič.

Slávo Krekovič, Marek Piaček and Oliver Rehák will introduce their audiovisual performance ; the visual material for this performance will be represented by found footage in half-realtime animation, and the sound will be represented by improvised plunderfonia, accompanied by VJ Chaosdroid. It is a half-narrative scrummage inspired by Ulysses’ journey.
