The winner of this year’s Other Visions CZ competition is Lucie Rosenfeldová with her work Polymind. The Main Award was granted by the international jury consisting of Cordelia Dvorák (DE), Alexander Campaz (US) and Olga Bobrowska (PL). The Audience Award went to Martin Zvěřina and his Pillars.
The announcement of the winners and the presentation of the awards in the competition of the Czech moving image, Other Visions, took place on Sunday, the 4th of December 2016 during the closing ceremony of the jubilee 15th year of PAF – The Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art.
“We chose the video Polymind because it has a very economical use of technical and artistic elements, which constantly hold the viewers’ attention without revealing the full intention. As the video progresses you begin to understand the complexity of the question, which is related to communication. The visual imagery is combined with minimal language, which is also very surprising and unpretentious. The video gently re-evaluates and redefines communication as a process of balancing individual and public discourses,” said the Jury about their decision.

Ten works of the contemporary Czech moving image were selected by the leading Czech curator and art theorist Karel Císař. The ten works chosen for the Other Visions CZ 2016 competition of the jubilee year of PAF, The Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art, were screened in the film auditorium and installed in the Atrium at Konvikt.
“Other Visions, the curatorial selection of the competition section of PAF – The Festival of Film Animation in Olomouc, was formed from two, to a certain extent, conflicting intentions: on one hand, the aim was to present the most significant works that originated in the given discipline during the last eighteen months, and on the other hand it was to suggest the more general tendencies we may encounter there,” said Karel Císař about his curatorial approach.
The competition Other Visions aims to explore the production of the moving image in the Czech Republic. It focuses on forms which are on the boundary of animation, experimental film and video-art. Every year ten works are chosen and their selection is unique due to the different interests of each curator.
Under the name Other Visions CZ 2016, the selection will be presented by PAF throughout the next year, both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
