The portrait was the main theme of the 18th Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art, which took place from 5th till 8th December 2019. It brought avatars to Olomouc and awarded two major prizes to young artists.
The festival program offered more than 80 program blocks in 15 Olomouc locations. The Czech premiere of the CURL team was one of the most anticipated performances, the Church of Hus Choir opened its door to the PAF audience for the first time, the Mexican multidisciplinary artist Cristina Maldonado brought the Insider performance for two spectators, and the portrait theme was represented also by the American artist Carla Gannis, who introduced herself by means of her avatar C.A.R.L.A. G.A.N., among others.
The retrospective of the American experimental filmmaker Owen Land held its Czech premiere. The British curator Mark Weber came to present a selection of eighteen films from his work. Luke Fowler, a UK filmmaker and musician, presented at PAF his experimental works made on a 16mm film as well as a live audiovisual performance.
The winner of the 13th moving images competition Other Visions CZ 2019 was decided by an international jury consisting of Matt Carter, Zh Fevek and Erika Balsom. Zbyšek Semelka with the video Advertising the Earth Radio — Stephen P. McGreevy’s VLF Cut-Outs became the winner. BCAAsystem's video No~one Is an Island received the Jury Award. Laura Amann was the curator of the ten competition works.
An announcement ceremony of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award 2019 was held at PAF in Olomouc for the very first time. It is one of the most prestigious awards in the Czech Republic for artists under the age of 35. Andreas Gajdošík became this year's laureate and Pavla Malinová received the Audience Award.
PAF Olomouc 2020 will be held from 3rd till 6th December 2020.
