site-specific ntervention and mobile video sculpture, Stavanger
Silos Svankevigá, Stavanger, Norway
Joint sculptural and multimedia work of Matěj Al Ali and Tomáš Moravec shows the features of interventions to public space. The interventions cover the issues of particular places or, through the counterpoint between the visible and invisible intervention, create a footprint which influences not only physical but also social aspects of its message.
The relation between sculptural interventions, set conditions of recording and the action itself is the starting point which leads to the creation of moving images, objects and installations by Matěj Al Ali. The topic the author has been dealing with in the long term is the inner conflict between automated recording of image by the means of machine or by manpower controlled vehicle. Matěj Al Ali deals with purely individualized and socially shared phenomena while he tries to eliminate human experience during the almost instinctive treatment of materials, including video recording.
In his work, Tomáš Moravec has been using industrial materials and their literally dynamic and static features (Euro pallets, cable spool, paper packages). As an experiment or a test, he also works with abstract and almost invisible materialisation of power and mass sources (light, water, smoke, helium). This laboratory and yet DIY aspect which is often hidden behind the works of Tomáš Moravec, turns into the exposed or simply puzzling content of his videos and space installations.
