ANNA PANKIEWICZ: ANAKNOK
The beginning of Anna Pankiewicz's career was represented by a series of short animated films that were screened under one title, 11 short animations.
This series, characterized by specific humour that is close to grotesque, can be marked as mere "playing with animation". The following films embody more elaborate works and the director puts an emphasis on their visual style and form (For Your Mother). Engaged films form the most outstanding part of Pankiewicz's work. She understands the animated film to be an artistic demonstration of inner themes that feel oppressive to her at present. Happiness or There's Always Tomorrow portrays current human problems (the consumer society and media pressure) and thus they uncover not only the complexity, but also the superficiality of our times. On the other hand, in those intimate films such as Colonkey or Ana Due, the author creates her own, very individual world.
