During the eight years of its existence, PAF has become a traditional event presenting history of animated film with its leading figures, current trends as well as border areas where animated film meets other art forms and technologies.

Festival of Film Animation takes place yearly in the Art Centre of Palacky University in Olomouc and other cultural institutions in Olomouc. The festival came into existence due to a need felt to map the changes of this genre while focusing on the newest trends and minor forms that are nowadays not sufficiently presented and reflected despite the strong tradition of Czech animated film.

Since its beginning, PAF has concentrated not only on presenting new Czech and foreign films in the context of the genre’s history but also on presenting threshold genres of animation that are now the most progressive due to dynamic development of various technologies (computer animation, 2D and 3D animation, VJing, net animation, animated adverts, video clips, and computer games).

PAF covers the empty space of minor genre presentation, i.e. of animated film. The goal of PAF is to devote time to one kind of film, to show its possibilities, discuss its history, to offer reflections of the current inland and foreign production, to allow for theoretical thinking as well as sharing practical experience.

The priority of PAF is maximum interaction among authors, professionals, and the audience; most thematic blocks are introduced by the author or an expert in the field; each screening is followed by a discussion.

Thanks to the focus on animated film, linking classic animation with current trends, PAF has gradually become a platform for informal gatherings of professionals, theoreticians, and historians of animated film. This discussion is supported by promotional  materials published each year (festival catalogue, anthologies) and by the festival echoes taking place in various Czech cities (Uherské Hradiště, Prague etc.).

In eight years of its existence, PAF has become a prestigious film event highly valued on national level – this is justified both by references in prestigious expert magazines and the long-term favor of partners and audience returning to Olomouc every year.
