Festival of Film Animation publishes for the first time this year's program sections!

NON-FICTION ANIMATION

Non-fiction animation represents quite a neglected but theoretically nourishing phenomenon. It covers a wide range of sub-genres: from educational and instructional films, through portrayal of events, to portraits of personalities or undiscussed taboos, together with the usage of animation in science, technology, advertisement, and occurance of animation in new media (an its contexts).

CROATIAN ANIMATION

A complex cross-section of the history and specifics of Croatian animation. Reaching mastery in the so-called Zagreb School, it has established the tradition for the majority of filmmakers to author their films from the screenplay through animation to direction. Besides traditional animation, Croatia also offers independent and avant-garde circles whose representatives are looking for new ways of thinking through animation, examining the borders between the media. The section is being cooperated by the Zagreb Film, Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Bonobo studio.

PAF CULT: IVAN LADISLAV GALETA

While Croatian filmmaker and director of the Animation Department in Zagreb, Ivan Ladislav Galet, enjoys well-deserved international attention on the West, he is practically unknown in the Czech context. PAF CULT section will present his key works from the sphere of filmmaking and videoart, and this untiring experimentalist himself will supply the section with unique lectures. Galeta will also prepare an independent block of works by contemporary Croatian progressive animators.

PAF REWIND: MOTION CAPTURE

Motion Capture is a technology that allows to digitally record the movement of people, animals and things (live action) and transfer it into a digital model. This technology is practically employed mainly by film and video games studios, but it is also helpful for science, health care or the military. The section follows both the historical-theoretical definition of the Motion Capture technology and presentation of individual artistic audiovisual works (clips, commercials, TV formats, films), as well as interdisciplinary overlaps of Motion Capture.

APORT ANIMATION

The new section is incurred presentation of projects, products and audiovisual works, working with the principles of animation. APORT ANIMATION should also represent a production platform for the rights arising from animated films, visualization, graphic concepts, etc., which are in various stages of implementation and help their visibility. This year's program APORT ANIMATION primarily focused on the central European country.

COMPETITION / OTHER VISIONS

The competition OTHER VISIONS is a selection of audiovisual works of art that originated within 18 months before the PAF festival. The competition intends to make accessible the work of professionals and amateurs who permeate through both the cinematographic and graphic scene. OTHER VISIONS dramaturgy seeks visually and narratively original projects from the borders of graphic art, videoart and animation.

KONVIKT RESIDENT – BLACK BOX

Section Konvikt Resident challenges the architectonic dispositions of the spacious building, former Jesuit residence, with individual graphic and film projects to create an experimental exhibition space that enables a piece of art to be presented. The "black-box" theme of this year's PAF annual refers to the so-called dark space of a screening hall that, with respect to the concept of exhibition places, represents an opposite to the light space of galleries and museums which is labeled as "white-cube". A selected artist will realize this phenomenon through an installation that will be presented throughout the Konvikt building.

LIVE ANIMATION – (HAND)MADE (SOFT)WARE

The subject of "live animation" will be the introduction and approximation of various historical techniques applied during live audiovisual performances. The lectures and discussions combined with audiovisual shows will point at the trends in the development of cinematic performance, Vjing up to the contemporary position of this phenomenon within both the domestic and international context. The separation of so-called professional and home-made approaches represents an important joint line with stress put on the specific usage of certain products, computer programmes and human invention.

MIDNIGHT FEVER

There will be screened animated feature films during three nights at the midnight time in the Film Auditorium at Konvikt. The pictures abound with controversal and often explicit portrayal of human body and carnality, or politically not always correct content.
