T he Secret of Kells and Up presented at PAF 2009 were among the nominated films for this year’s Oscars.
The Irish film The Secret of Kells, presented at PAF 2008 with the personal attendance of the director Tomm Moore, was one of the nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category. We were honoured to present it as the very first ones, at that time as an unfinished international project under the artistic and production supervision of the animation studio Cartoon Saloon under the working title Brendan and The Secret of Kells. It was screened in its Czech premiere one year later at PAF 2009. It was successful enough by that time to had been awarded by many prizes at world festivals, among others the main award at the Hungarian Kecskemét festival that has been co-operating with PAF for long time.
Screening of Up by Pete Docter, the tenth film of the renowned American Pixar studio and another film nominated for the Oscar, took place at PAF 2009, too. It had an amazing number of six nominations at the same time with being the second animated film in history that has ever been nominated in the Best Picture category.
