PAF CULT: IVAN LADISLAV GALETA
VIII. Festival of Film Animation 2009
While Croatian filmmaker and director of the Animation Department in Zagreb, Ivan Ladislav Galet, enjoys well-deserved international attention on the West, he is practically unknown in the Czech context. PAF CULT section will present his key works from the sphere of filmmaking and videoart, and this untiring experimentalist himself will supply the section with unique lectures. Galeta will also prepare an independent block of works by contemporary Croatian progressive animators.

Ivan Ladislav Galeta, a Croatian artist, ranks among the most significant representatives of European film avantgarde and videoart. Galeta’s effort to transform the space of recording by film is given by his mathematical “calculation”, manipulation with rhythm of the image as well as with contentually symbolic links – we will present his films that were made at the end of 1970s and later. The lecture will be supplied with a green board and a colored chalk. |

The video production of Ivan Ladislav Galeta is significant for the minimalism of its form; the author himself is the most frequent protagonist. Absurdity as well as humour is present in the work, the same as in the use of transforming “modern” technologies. Galeta as a gardener.
