The progressive studio Bonobo, based in Zagreb, is oriented on the production and distribution of animated and experimental films.
It was established in 2008 after the sunset of Kenges studio which was operating in the field for almost ten years. The trend of founding smaller production and distribution companies in Croatia supervenes the development of modern technologies that enable the making of animated films to be faster and easier. Thus artistically valuable films are created with the support of the Ministry of Culture, in independent productions as well. The shared target of Kenges and Bonobo is to support the creativity and expression of individual artists and discover new potentialities of animation. The presentation of films from their distribution will display different styles and themes. Among others the critically praised debut of Veljko Popović with She, Who Measures (2008) will be shown – with an unconventional view on the consumer society. The art director of studio Bonobo, Simon Bogojević Narath (video-installations, experimental and animated films) will personally introduce three of his most interesting films (Plasticat, 2002; Morana, 2008; Leviathan, 2006). The controversial adaptation of Hobbes philosophical doctrine Leviathan (1651) deserves special attention. A copy of this film was obtained exclusively from French distribution. The unique lecture will end with an introduction to Bonobo's latest projects.
