S radostí informujeme, že poslední publikace z PAF Edice: Genderové stereotypy v animované tvorbě Walta Disneyho byla uvedena do prodeje .
At the end of October the Festival of Film Animation will be introduced in Brno within the ECHO cycle (presentation of festivals) organized by UNTR, the local cultural base. Marie Meixnerová and Tomáš Javůrek will introduce PAF in both reminiscent and anticipatory way.
With regard to original grasp of moving image structure and content anticipation, the program will be entitled Tausendjahrekino.
PAF comes to the Moving Image Festival Screen City, held during October 25–27th 2013 in Stavanger/Sandnes, Norway. In programme Animated Cities curated by Eliška Děcká and Sylva Poláková, the Norway spectators will experience the thumbnail of the PAF 2012 programme section Urbanism Animated.
PAF invites to another exhibition in Vitrina Deniska premises, this time entitled CONFERENCE. NEONE, the Prague pop-up club, emerged thanks to the "visual label, creative studio and the organization for cultural events" Lunchmeat. Despite its short existence it is already known as a magic place in which moving images are crawling along the walls and beats do not fade away.
Therefore it is honour for PAF to fill one of these distinguished evenings with its own programme.
This year's PAF will offer six programme sections prepared by the experts on the given field. It is a great honour for us that the main programme section, which characterizes the Czechoslovak visual culture of the socialistic 1950s, will be dramaturgically prepared by Pavel Ryška.
Recently we have informed about the release of new PAF Edition publication called Gender Stereotypes in Walt Disney Animation with silver mirror book cover.
While the publication is only slowly heading to the counters of booksellers, and in December will be available for purchase also at our festival, it is already possible to make a pre-order or reservation of your own copy.
This September is being released other from expert publications published in our PAF Edition. This time, the team of researchers focused on gender stereotypes in classic animated film.
Do you want to learn the secrets of Disney's "crack for five years old"? Do you find the beauty stereotype interesting? Do you want to learn, among other things, how is the sexual orientation related to ideology? Then read the collective monograph Gender Stereotypes in Walt Disney Animation: Ideology, Queer, Discursive Analysis that speaks to the reader a clear message and does not mince words with the animated heroes of our childhood.

PAF recommends thematically related festival 25 FPS. Festival 25 FPS, held annually in Croatian city of Zagreb, screens independent and non-commercial films which innovatively explore the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, cross film types and genres and broaden the notion of film as art.
PAF sincerely invites you to the event in Vitrina Deniska. By the new exposition lasting from the 19th September to the 17th October, Vitrina Deniska encourages passers-by to think about political and religious conflicts of the present time. The showcase stylization in form of a wedding, i.e. a symbol of human unity and new future life, calls for reflections on possibilities of coexistence of various religious groups and distinctive or even hateful attitude towards each other. Paradoxically it is the faith what should lead up to bringing people together in mutual love and respect.
Other Visions 2013 invite the authors to submit their works. The one and only competition section of Festival of Film Animation aims to map the current production of moving images of film and video in the Czech Republic, concentrating on the works that lie on the boundary of animation, experimental cinema and video art. The selection of final ten is every year unique thanks to the interest divergence of authorized curators, who select the final ten works nominated for the competition.
PAF has started cooperation with Hungarian festival Crosstalk. For our new partner we have prepared three program blocks of Czech videos, each for every festival day. It is not the question of legitimacy that is among the highly sensitive issues concerning net art toady, but rather its documentation and preservation. These topics have to be taken with urgency since the delicate artworks are constantly dealing with the threat of, due to the unstable nature of the Internet and development of technology, not ever again being perceived the way originally intended. The participants will be introduced to the project net.artdatabase.org initiated by constantdullaart.com (Constant Dullaart) and curatingyoutube.net (Robert Sakrowski) that is focused on Contextualizing Internet-based Art, its collaborative documenting and archiving.

The Austrian experimental filmmaker and thinker Peter Kubelka (*1934), who introduced his work at PAF 2008 in person, is now presenting ANTIPHON (2012, 6.24 min), a part of a larger work called MONUMENT FILM (2012, 90 min). Kubelka is thus going back to his film Arnulf Rainer (1960, 6.24 min) which is constituted by four basic elements: light and darkness, sound and silence. Now, more than 50 years later, Kubelka makes Antiphon, a remake of Arnulf Rainer. It is a parallel film and all the elements are in opposite form – light becomes darkness, silence becomes sound, positive becomes negative and negative becomes positive. MONUMENT FILM will be premiered within the 50th year of the New York Film Festival, on the 8th of October 2012. Then it will be presented at Viennale that takes place from the 25th of October to the 7th of November 2012.
Other Visions 2012 curator: Dušan Zahoranský
The competition and curatorial selection Other Visions tries to make the current Czech audio-visual production, which lies on the boundary of visual art, video art and animation, more accessible already for the sixth year. Any classical animation, work with manipulated image, text, section of feature film, record of performance etc. is accepted. Consequently, the work with film and video moving images in their largest scale is expected.
PAF is looking for young Czech artists, who are currently active in the sphere of Internet art. On the occasion of program section devoted to net art, PAF seeks after young generation of Czech net artists. Our aim is to create awareness about the existence of young Internet art in the Czech Republic among general public, curators, as well as artists themselves, since there is no big tradition of Internet art in the Czech Republic and individual artists are not organized to the extent common abroad. The result is the apparent 'invisibility' of Czech net art, which is limited to independent art projects, often hitting the misrecognition and misunderstanding, preventing artists from continuity of work.

The second section of this year's PAF: Light and darkness are the essential elements of moving pictures creation. Fascination with pre-cinematographic principles of animation is reflected in image projection, light animation of interwar avant-garde and also utopian projects of the present day. The section is devoted to non-traditional animation techniques and focuses on light editing, animation of luminous objects and construction of screening premises.
Thanks to its pleasant visual appeal, traditional narrative animation can easily confuse the audience through its appearance because at first sight it might seem to be light-headed children's amusement. Similarly the term "gender" in the Czech environment is often distortedly presented as some kind of alien bogey.
Topics of this year's PAF correspond with the names of individual sections: GOYS AND BIRLS IN ANIMATION, LIGHT AND DARKNESS OF LIVE ANIMATION, PAF REWIND: ROTOSCOPY, COMPETITION: OTHER VISIONS, PAF CULT, APORT ANIMATION, KONVIKT RESIDENT. More details about individual sections and graphic design will be released during following hours and days.

The competition is implemented within the framework of the Festival of Film Animation that however works with category of animation within much wider interpretative framework than it is usual. Any classical animation, work with manipulated image, text, sequences of feature films and record of a performance are also accepted. Thus the work with moving image of film and video in the widest possible grasp is expected.

Carsten Nicolai aka Alva Noto, one of the most significant contemporary audiovisual artists, is among those artists who introduced themselves to the Czech Republic for the first time. Another outstanding event was the world premiere of the gallery video Soft Palate by the Austrian experimentalist Martin Arnold, who preferred Olomouc's premiere to premieres at the Berlin and Rotterdam festivals.
The Brno artist David Možný's film Rahova became the winner of the Other Visions competition section. The three-member jury appreciated this film for its excellence, conceptually and technically, in image and sound. According to the jury, the film composites an inside view into the architecture and the elements of construction showing the vulnerability of a formerly pre-fabricated living environment. It shows dystopia in a playful way, rather than depressing. Rahova was also awarded by the audience.
