On Saturday, August 12th, Petr Šprincl will introduce the continuing series Morava, krásná zem / Morava, the Beautiful Land within the framework of Other Visions at the film festival 4 Živly.
“What to do when the devil is defeated by a moravian Catholic? How to sing when the spirit of facism arises from Carnival? Where to go, when costumed people carrying smoked pork on a skewer go through the rows of people? Moravia, according to Šprincl, offers answers to these questions and more. The south moravian Slovak presents an intoxicating landscape, where wine and yawning are the only remnants of violence.
The artists’ expo suggests a gathering of motifs from a visual and narrative sample of folklore, Catholicism, and Satanism. The artists touch upon the folk traditions, symbols and archetypality of the region through examples or contrasts in the various subcultures or fates of their compatriots, which can be seen through one example one of the main characters of the film, painter Joža Úprka. The main heroes here appear in realistic backgrounds, such as the fruit orchard, the feast circle, as well as the AZ-quiz from the TV studio in Brno. Moravia, the Beautiful Land II is the second part of the emerging trilogy devoted to this region, not only to its geographic but also social manifestation.
The projection is organized by the curator of PAF, Marie Meixnerová, and the director of the festival, Alexandr Jančík.
