MIDNIGHT FEVER

MIDNIGHT FEVER

VIII. Festival of Film Animation 2009

There will be screened animated feature films during three nights at the midnight time in the Film Auditorium at Konvikt. The pictures abound with controversal and often explicit portrayal of human body and carnality, or politically not always correct content.

DEANIMATED (THE INVISIBLE GHOST)

23:59 | Saturday 12.12. | Bílá Nora theatre

section MIDNIGHT FEVER

Martin Arnold | Austria | 2002 | 60‘

“The Hollywood film is one of banishment, reduction and denying; a film of repression. For this reason we should pay attention, not only to what is shown, but also to what is hidden,” says the artist, who cuts out parts of dialogues, characters or whole shots from a classic black-and-white horror film with Bela Lugosi (Invisible Ghost, 1942, d. J. H. Lewis) to create a new film (Deanimated: The Invisible Ghost, 2002) where he completely omits the main motives and movers of the original script – i.e. murders, their causes as well as victims.

IMMIGRANTS (L. A. DOLCE VITA)

23:59 | Thursday 10.12. | film auditorium

section MIDNIGHT FEVER

Gabor Csupo | USA, Hungary | 2008 | 78‘

The story is about two best friends, Vladislav, a Russian, and Joska, a Hungarian, and about chasing the American dream. They live together in an apartment house called Vista del Mar along with other immigrants from all over the world and they try to adapt to their new environment. This comically ironic story with diverse characters was directed by one of the animators of The Simpsons series.
