A morose pensioner in a family animated film? Would anybody dare? Yes, the Pixar Studio that combines dynamic action scenes, humour, and sadness in its latest work. Almost 80-year-old Carl Friedriksen is widowed and has thus lost his love of life. It is a task for a little scout, a corpulent boy, who knocked on the old man’s door in order to gain his last badge, to stir up the old man’s will to live and his belief that dreams can come true. But it will not be so easy; there is a long journey (and quite a thorny one) for one to reach his goal…

Although Jiří Barta is associated particularly with his expressive masterpiece The Pied Piper, it does not mean that this magician of puppet film could not manage to create a story for children. For it is their imaginary world that is being revived in Barta’s hands and we could hardly list all the creatures we meet there. If we want to have a brief look, though, we have to climb up into the dusty and desolate attic, where it is uncertain whether we will remain healthy from one side to the other. Rescue of a doll Buttercup from the cruel ruler of the Land of Evil is at stake here, though…
