Festivals of Live Cinema
Collaboration of the Czech (PAF) and Norwegian (Screen City) Platforms for Film and Contemporary Art of the Moving Image.
The largest show of Czech audiovisual art in Norway, two festivals of contemporary art, the commissioning of seven new artworks, a seminar for the general public in collaboration with the University. Those are just the highlights of the more than year-long project “Festivals of Live Cinema,” initiated by PAF–Festival of Film Animation, Olomouc.

The audio-visual artist Martin Blažíček is going to open his exhibition inVitrína Deniska on Monday, 29 February. After the opening he is going to introduce his new cinematographic performance Binary Logic that was produced by PAF.
A cycle of lectures about Live Cinema organised by PAF within the framework of the Festivals of Live Cinema project continues. The autumn seminars What Is Live Cinema? with Greg Pope and Kateřina Koutná and the Tomáš Pospiszyl’s lecture In the Light of Laterna Magika, which took place in December, will be followed by the lecture What is Film?
PAF 2015 Has Ended
The 14th year of PAF—Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art ceremonially ended on Sunday, 6 December 2015. We offer you a flashback to the most interesting moments of the 14th festival.
PAF & Live Cinema
One of the main outputs of the Festivals of Live Cinema project, on which was PAF being working continually in cooperation with Norway Festival Screen City since April 2015, was the 14th PAF—Festival of Film Animation in Olomouc.
PAF is Coming: Music Morphing with Image
This year’s PAF programme offered a number of unique performances which are somewhere between concerts, spatial installations and live work with the moving image. Part of the programme were Czech premiere performances by TCF (NO), Blue Daisy (GB), Lotic (US) and Takashi Makino (JP).
Other Visions 2015 – Finalists
Within the Festivals of Live Cinema project, Other Visions of the moving image are visions Differentiated—the clearly defined distinctive works that either are, by the means of their visual qualities, narrative structure, combination of both or by any other way inclined to the space in-between; or which through the various formats of their presentation expose different semantic levels, that are supported by (or tied to) the chosen projection and installation situation.

PAF 2015 Press Conference
The press conference for the 14th PAF—Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art in Olomouc took place on Wednesday, 18th of November 2015, 10:30 am, in the Fresco Hall of Community and Cultural Space W7 (Wurmova 7 St., Olomouc, Czech Republic).
Other Visions: Czech Moving Images Installation in New York
PAF presented the curatorial selection of ten contemporary moving images of film and video in New York City. The screening block mapped the manifestations of animation in the collection of contemporary films and videos, that were created on the basis of installation and/or audio-visual performance.
PAF Organized The Largest Show of Czech Audio-Visual Art in Norway
The largest show of Czech contemporary audio-visual art took place in Norway within the Screen City Festival. Top Czech representatives of artistic interference in public space, working with video mapping, audio-visual sculpture and cinematic performance were presented in the coastal city of Stavanger.
Shift in Perspective
A day prior to the opening of Screen City Festival, the duo of Czech artists Tomáš Moravec and Matěj Al-Ali gave a lecture focusing on their authorial approach towards the Live Cinema. They have also presented their joint site-specific live cinema project prepared specifically for Screen City Festival in Stavanger under the umbrella of Festivals of Live Cinema project.
What is Live Cinema? Second Seminar is with Kateřina Koutná
The second Live Cinema seminar was oriented on the phenomena of the electronic and acoustic music in live performance. It was held by the Czech musician Kateřina Koutná who, together with the visual artist Anna Balážová, subsequently performed a live cinema show.
Greg Pope, a prominent British artist who deals with the Live Cinema phenomenon will, for the first time, introduce his new project to the public. This project results from the collaboration with Czech artists Veronika Vlková and Kateřina Koutná. The event takes place on university ground and is open to the public.
In August 2015, PAF visited Oslo within the “Live Cinema Lab,” a part of the Festivals of Live Cinema project. PAF made the trip in order to map the local art – visual art, film and musical – scene and to establish important collaborations with artists and institutions.
The activities “Live Cinema Lab,” our “laboratory” of live cinema, have already started within the Festivals of Live Cinema project.
Czech and Norwegian experts, curators and artists dealing with Live Cinema are meeting in Live Cinema Lab to establish contacts and develop their cooperation. Output of this cooperation will be a series of events in Stavanger (Norway) and in Olomouc and they will be connected with live cinema and the contemporary technologies.
The opening press conference of the “Festivals of Live Cinema” project will take place on Tuesday, May 26 in Olomouc.
