In the work of this Dutch artist, performativity is rather important: from performances on social networking sites, through performative behaviour joined with the perception of web based artwork, to physical performances using the processes of reverse remediation and the famous and highly unsettling live internet pieces. Networked performance in the Dullaart style.
Performativity plays an important role in Constant Dullaart's work: from performances within social networks, through performative behaviour resulting from the reception of artistic work on the Internet, to physical performances involving reversely-remediative processes and especially his famous disturbing live Internet works.
In one of those works for example, (DVD Screensaver Performance, from 2010) he makes an analogue animation in real time where he transforms himself into a human screensaver by means of rolls of coloured paper ovals with a "DVD" sign that he is holding in his hand. He does it in diverse places which creates an absurd impression: the Joshua Tree National Park, his own living room and the Viennese Museum of Applied Arts (Museum für angewandte Kunst). He constantly explores the further possibilities and overlaps of this seemingly simple performance. At this year's Spanish "festival of non conventional art, communication guerrilla and radical entertainment" Dullaart even staged his performance as the subject of a dialogue with another Internet professional's performance: he juxtaposed his screensaver and a live Internet erotic service such as hot on-line sex. It was a networked performance in Dullart's style and was one enjoyable example of many.
This Dutch artist with the congenial name will arrive at PAF fresh and full of new impressions from a residential stay in China, and ready to present the unique [18:11:15] constant dullaart: networked performance.
