(c) merry is a Czech artist with a rather disturbing attitude. In her reverse-remediation and conceptual internet projects she explores and exploits the limits of authorship, disrupts the boundaries of on-line and off-line identities and seeks a definition for what is art and who is or can be an artist on the internet.
In her work, she opposes the "uncritical acceptance of the major contemporary aesthetic convention embodied by the perfect HD image that leads to low quality material being considered as a valid aesthetic standard." This is related to the development of the creative/authorial potential of the medium itself, which is seen as one of the equal co-authors. Through temporal mystifications, using simple, universal tools and with the long-term nature of her artistic projects that also often require the everyday participation of their author (e.g. the ongoing guerrilla installation Red, transmitting the principles of internet interactivity and collective authorship into physical space), and when the individual parts of the creative process are several decades apart, she stands against the aggressive pressure of topicality and the current data overload.
She responds with verve to productions by other artists as well as installation situations (e.g. YouTube project top0comment "completing" Watching by Martin Kohout and intervening in the work and gallery space in which it was an exhibit at the same time). A great many of her projects have the character of an impulse, directly counting on the co-authorship of the ordinary user (Sorry, the page you are looking for is not available in your region, May 2011 – January 2012 etc).
Net art as performed by (c) merry is on the border between live performance, perverted academic experiment, social probe, visual arts, literary opus and a children's play.
