We would like to invite you to the PAF Archive and Other Visions of Animation: Re-Edits programme at Hungarian Animation Film Festival Anilogue.
PAF will introduce Czech video art working with re-editing of already existing movies:
After the Assassination (3 fragments) / Po Atentátu (3 fragmenty)
(Filip Cenek, Czech Republic 1998, 6´10) The film treats a scene from a Czech war film about the assassination of Heydrich. It´s an intimate scene where three characters learn that the deed has been done. The author of the video repeats this scene three times and each time he crops the detail of a particular character, which allows the spectator to concentrate on psychologically difficult quest of the actors.
Home Cinema / Home Cinema
(Alena Kotzmannová, Czech Republic 2006, 9')The second video is completely composed of the video jingles introducing film companies, TV shows or simply some merchandise. Putting them into the line, the author achieves a strange effect, when the jingles lose their original purpose and reveal their aesthetical qualities.
The Killer Is Hiding A Form / Vrah skrývá tvar
(Roman Štětina, Csehorság 2010, 30')Finally, the third and longest video deals with a classical Czech criminal film The Killer Is Hiding A Face from the 50´s. The author of the video cut out all of the scenes and shots where the spoken word is engaged, and examines to what extent is the remaining material faithful to the original meaning or how much it generates new meanings.
All of these videos have in common that they work with a previously made video material.
