The second year of the LITR book fair, which is focused not only on authorial and artistic publications and their presentation, but also on phenomena related to the low-cost publication of books and magazines, will take place from Friday, 23 September to Sunday, 25 September 2016. Organised in cooperation with PAF.
The trade fair, which first took place last October in Olomouc, will be accompanied by several workshops, lectures, exhibitions, presentations and musical concerts.
LITR features original publishing houses as well as independent authors (both established and starting artists). LITR aims to make the general public aware of the work of young writers, artists, designers, illustrators and students of fine arts, as well as the unique production of small independent publishing houses. Therefore visitors have the opportunity to browse through original publications that are usually available only in specialised bookstores and on the Internet.
On Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 of September, there will be about thirty stands of independent Czech publishers, designers and artists, such as Uutěrky graphic studio, the group of illustrators called Nýbrž, literary magazines PLAV and H_aluze, publishing houses Bylo nebylo, Nová beseda, bookstores and galleries Xaoxax, Artmap and many others.
LITR will also offer many workshops. Under Pavla Baštanová’s expert guidance, children can create a moving image –a flipbook- by means of various animation techniques. Under the supervision of the artists and illustrators from Brno – Veronika Vlková and Jan Šrámek – children will have an opportunity to create a book of collage and watercolours. Adults will be taught the basics of Coptic binding by Parapet studio. The small risographic studio and independent publishing house KudlaWerkstatt will organise a workshop dealing with authorial zine.
The presentation of the individual publishing houses which participate in the fair, as well as Olomouc PechaKucha, will be part of the accompanying programme. Authors and artists connected with the creation of an author’s book, i.e. from the areas of illustration, typography, graphics etc., will be introduced during the cooperation with PechaKuchaNight.
Within his authorial presentation, the artist, author of conceptual books and university professor, Vladimír Havlík will speak about the origin and development of so-called processual books
This year’s exhibition programme focuses on the content and the formal qualities of text transformed into other media. Videos, which crucially work with text information, will be introduced within the Text, Lies and Video exhibition which presents the works of selected Czech artists (Lenka Vítková, Tomáš Svoboda, Viktor Takáč, Kateřina Držková etc.). Specially adjusted prints will highlight the typographic qualities of the fonts and letters by authors presented within the LITR programme.
In the evenings, Wurmova 7 will host several concerts. On Friday, 23 September, there will be a concert by the Mladý zelí špičatý band from Olomouc; on Saturday, 24 September, there will be concerts by the bedroom pop project Tamed & Confused and the psychedelic band from Prague – Frank Bigsby & His Satanic Majesty.
Admission to all events (including workshops and concerts) is free.
