The only competition section of PAF, Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art, that focuses on contemporary Czech audiovisual art bordering on animation, experimental film and videoart will celebrate its 10th anniversary in December this year.
In almost ten years of its existence, Other Visions has become renowned as a representative selection of the most inspiring Czech art of the ‘moving image’.
“It was also PAF that made a significant contribution to the interdisciplinary spread of the term ‘moving image’ to describe the area that was previously labelled “audiovisual”,” wrote the theorist Lenka Střeláková in an article for the magazine Art + Antiques.
Film historian Jan Křipač evaluated last year‘s Other Visions in the NFA Film Review in the following way: „This year’s edition of Other Visions has confirmed that Czech art of the moving image has found a suitable platform in the Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art.”

The competition Other Visions represents an integral part of the PAF festival that takes place in Olomouc every year in December. Every year a different curator nominates ten artworks from those submitted and creates a screening series that subsequently represents the core of the Other Visions programme section. The programmers of the festival choose curators from diverse areas of culture. The series of ten artworks is presented by PAF under the title Other Visions after the festival and the following year in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Last year’s selection was shown by the Czech Center in New York in a special screening as Other Visions 2015.
In Czech and Slovak territory, Other Visions is mainly presented in cinemas, museums and galleries in Prague, Brno and Bratislava, but also in other smaller towns and at affiliated festivals.
