An announcement of the winner of the fourth year of the Other Visions SK 2019 competition took place on Wednesday 26 February in cooperation with PAF, Kinečko and 4 ŽIVLY. Michal Žilinský won with his Fragment 0 video.
The winner was selected by an expert jury composed of Fest Anča festival director Ivana Sujovová, film publicist Alexandra Gabrižová and graphic designer Branislav Matis. The jury appreciated the informative value and technical quality of the work. They further explained in a statement: “In his work, Michal Žilinský continuously meditates on the decomposition of matter, moves from concrete spaces to the universal, from individual memory to collective history (of a country, world, universe?). Fragment 0 is another piece in the mosaic. At the same time, it is a strong, authorially mature original audiovisual work. It emphasises the beauty of the object, pays homage to slowness and flow. It comprehensively grasps the idea of a moving image, an almost moving artistic still life, which subsequently develops into a comprehensive dramatic film structure and is able to communicate with the viewer in a gallery as well as a cinema. The bitterness of the perceived death of a human existence remains somewhere in the background. After last year's victory of Other Visions, he once again defends his status, confirming his undeniable talent."
Six short works were selected by the visual artist Jaroslav Kyša, who wrote about his selection: “In all the works we can see a human body, its individual parts – fragments or at least a trace of past human activity. It is as if they were looking for a place of an individual – a subject – a body in the current state of the world, drowned in economic, ecological and post-truth problems.”
